WELCOME TO MY NEW BLOG SITE!
Why Blogging?
I've always been a dreamer. Throughout my childhood, I had huge dreams: Olympic figure skater, gold medalist gymnast, New York Times Bestselling Author, Living in New York City... But reality has hit: As of April 7th, 2019, I'm 30. And I'm none of those things. I've been a writer. It was great. However, after half a decade of running my own Quarter Life blog, I decided that I simply hadn't found my niche.
Why AuthenticEnough?
I've never been the one to shy away from a dream, so I'm back with another blog. This time, I decided I would try my hand at what has been a closet passion of mine for a long time: Fashion. I worked the process, checking out ideas for content and my new audience (Hello, out there!). That point is where I would hit a wall. After reviewing hundreds of fashion blogs, I found that they all have some points in common:- They all feature these beautiful, glamourous women. These women know how to work a selfie camera angle like it's nobody's business and it shows in their followers.
- They often feature brand name clothing that I totally CANNOT afford.
- They ALL give the feeling of some lifestyle impossible for the normal woman to attain.
As much as I love fashion, I felt pretty discouraged. I'm no Instagram model. Most days, I wear casual, comfortable clothes, many of which come from Walmart and thrift stores. I don't often wear brand clothing because, like 15% of Americans, I live below the poverty level. To top it off, I don't attend amazing events like the Grammys, so I have no need for the extravagant attire. I felt most deflated because as far as Instagram and other social media are concerned, I was a worthless nobody.
To add injury to insult, social media culture portrays this idea that you have to be somebody to be seen and heard. As I sifted through the myriad of fashion centered social media, I wished aloud that I would see a blog about someone as imperfect as I am. It was at that moment that AuthenticEnough was born.
What do you hope to achieve with this blog?
This is not a glitzy-glam fashion blog. This is the fashion of the Every Woman, the Average Woman...The Real Woman. This is fashion for the mother of toddlers, who can't wear white. This is for all of the women whose lives (and fashion sense) AREN'T picture perfect. You won't see photoshopped images that make me look like a model. Instead, you'll see images wherein which the beauty that radiates off of them will be the beauty of authenticity, of reality. No perfectionism here. You won't see faultless abs, you won't see flawless makeup, you will almost certainly NEVER see me in Haute Couture. What you can expect to see are days where my kids have rubbed food upon my fresh tee shirt. You'll see acne and bad lighting. You'll see photos sans makeup. You'll see my imperfections.
I hope to be a mirror to you, one to remind you that no one is perfect. You don't have to be because I'm certainly far from it. One day, I hope someone else has the courage to take on something as impossible as competing with perfection. I want to inspire more like me. I want to share something with you: I almost didn't start this blog. I realized that I would never be like one of the other prominent fashion bloggers because I look average. But that's ok. The average outnumber the rest and we deserve to see adequate representation. Here I am! Now, BE INSPIRED!
